Architectural Marvel

Hazrat Sultan Mosque is a stunning example of modern Islamic architecture. The mosque covers an area of 11 hectares, making it one of the largest mosques in Central Asia.

It can accommodate up to 10,000 worshippers simultaneously. The mosque’s exterior features pristine white marble, with intricate designs and motifs inspired by traditional Kazakh patterns.

The central dome, soaring 51 meters high, is surrounded by eight smaller domes, creating a visually captivating skyline. Four towering minarets, each standing at 77 meters, accentuate the mosque’s grandeur.

Inside, the mosque is equally impressive, with spacious prayer halls adorned with beautiful chandeliers, elegant calligraphy, and intricate tile work. The main prayer hall’s domed ceiling is particularly breathtaking, featuring a stunningly detailed geometric pattern.

History

The idea of constructing Hazrat Sultan Mosque was conceived in response to the growing need for a grand place of worship in the rapidly developing capital city.

Commissioned by the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, the mosque was designed to reflect both traditional Islamic architectural elements and contemporary design.

The construction began in 2009, and after three years of meticulous work, it was completed and inaugurated on July 6, 2012.

Named in honor of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, a revered Sufi scholar and poet who played a significant role in spreading Islam in Central Asia, Hazrat Sultan Mosque stands as a tribute to his legacy.

Yasawi’s influence is deeply rooted in Kazakh history, and the mosque serves as a spiritual successor to his teachings.
